When you lose your best friend...

Yesterday, August 7th, 2009 was a very crappy day in the Demastus home. Our family's best friend, Bessie Anabelle Demastus, went to heaven. Even though I honestly have struggled with feeling like a murderer for having her put down, I know the decision was the best one for my girl, Bessie. Her problems were chronic and in the end she was very bad, and even though we didn't want to deal with it, we had to. The Bible says that it is important to care for the needs of your animal, in fact it is a righteous act (Proverbs 12:10). And sometimes the best decision is to grant a painless and peaceful passing.

We buried Bessie in our backyard, her backyard. That's where she played with her two favorite boys. She was buried in her favorite blanket with one of her favorite "bunnies" and she wore her pretty pink bandana. We all are going to miss her very much. But, if my wife's theology is correct, then I'll get to see her again one day!

What a day!

Wow! The food has been ate, the naps have been taken and the relaxed pace is over for the day. I really enjoyed myself today. We really had fun as a family together just being thankful for God being so dang good to us. It still blows me away.

We went for a walk in a local state park over here called, "Johnson's Saulk Trail." It is a beautiful place with a lot of pretty scenery. I took the Bessinator with and she had an awesome time as well. She loves walks. Check her out in this beautiful pose...

She's a good dog. If you are reading this, I want you to know that I appreciate you. I really do. Most of you send me e-mails and notes to give me encouragement and you'll never know how much that means to me. It's what pulls me through...that, and God's outrageous grace.

So thank you, friend. Hope you've had your full in every way. God's very best to you.

Take Your Dog To Work Day!

Well, The Fort wasn't the same today. It was Take Your Dog To Work Day today. So Bessie came with me to help me get ready for Sunday. Her input on any sermon prep was minimal...although she did leave a nice present in the church library! Here she is with her Daddy!
